Ford has issued a recall covering more than 11,000 F-250 and F-350 Super Duty pickup trucks after identifying a driveshaft component that may separate while the vehicle is in motion. The recall notice was posted March 3 on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website and applies to certain trucks from the 2025 and 2026 model years.
When a driveshaft separates, the driver loses propulsive power, which significantly increases the risk of a crash, particularly at highway speeds or in high-traffic conditions. In some cases, drivers may hear a loud popping noise as the first sign that something has gone wrong, according to the recall notice.
Which specific trucks are affected
The recall covers two Ford Super Duty models across the same two-year production window. Approximately 9,000 Ford F-250 trucks are included in the recall, along with roughly 2,000 F-350 vehicles. Both affected models are from the 2025-2026 model years.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning March 16, giving affected drivers advance notice before the formal repair process gets underway.
What Ford owners should do now
Owners of recalled vehicles can take their truck to any authorized Ford or Lincoln dealership to have the rear driveshaft inspected and, if necessary, replaced. Ford has confirmed the service will be completed at no cost to the owner, covering both the inspection and any required parts and labor.
Drivers who are uncertain whether their vehicle falls within the recall parameters have two straightforward ways to check. The NHTSA recall database and the USA TODAY vehicle recall database are both regularly updated with the latest information and can be searched by make, model or year. The NHTSA website also allows owners to search directly using their vehicle’s license plate number or vehicle identification number, which provides the most precise confirmation of whether a specific truck is included. The same NHTSA database covers recalled car seats, tires and other automotive equipment beyond vehicles themselves.
A pattern of recent Ford recall activity
This latest action is part of a broader stretch of recall activity involving Ford vehicles in recent months. The automaker has issued several separate recalls over the past year covering millions of vehicles across various models and model years, addressing issues ranging from windshield wiper motor failures to other mechanical and safety concerns.
For F-250 and F-350 owners, the driveshaft recall is the most immediately relevant development. Given that the potential consequence of an unaddressed driveshaft separation is a loss of vehicle control, owners of 2025 and 2026 model year Super Duty trucks are encouraged to verify their vehicle’s status and schedule a dealership appointment promptly rather than waiting for the mailed notification to arrive.
