Some nameplates carry more weight than others. The Grand Sport is one of them. Chevrolet is reviving one of Corvette’s most storied racing names with the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport, and creating new legacy with the Grand Sport X — both vehicles blending heritage-inspired design with a next-generation V8 engine that produces more torque than any other naturally aspirated V8 in Corvette history.
The Grand Sport story started with a pure race car — an effort led by legendary Corvette engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov, a C2 built lightweight and purpose-built to challenge the best sports cars around the world. Chevrolet built just five. Decades later, that same DNA is back — and it’s meaner than ever.
Chevrolet officially announced 2027 Corvette pricing on April 13, 2026, with order banks opening April 16 for most models. The cars are real, the orders are open, and production is right around the corner.
The LS6 V8 Is the Heart of Everything
Every 2027 Stingray, Grand Sport, and Grand Sport X will be powered by the all-new naturally aspirated LS6 6.7-liter V8 — 409 cubic inches for those keeping score in the old language. It makes 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque, with Chevrolet officially stating it produces more torque than any naturally aspirated V8 they have ever put in a Corvette.
The 6.7-liter unit runs a 13.0:1 compression ratio as opposed to 11.5:1 for the previous LT2, with forged pistons, forged connecting rods, and cylinder heads with two-piece water jackets. Dual injection, a larger throttle body, and a brand-new exhaust architecture round out an engine that sounds as savage as it performs. The Grand Sport’s exhaust system features the first ever use of bi-state AFM valves plus continuously variable exhaust valves, allowing custom tuning in 2-degree increments for varying valve position in each driver mode.
General Motors’ Flint Engine Operations in Flint will assemble the LS6 with U.S. and globally sourced parts, returning production to the city where the first Corvette V8s were built in 1955. That’s not just a technical detail — it’s a statement.
The Chevrolet Grand Sport X Is a Different Animal Entirely
If the Grand Sport is for the purist, the Grand Sport X is for the animal who wants everything. The Grand Sport X pairs the same LS6 V8 at the rear with a 186-horsepower permanent magnetic electric motor on the front axle, sourced from the ZR1X. Combined output is 721 horsepower with AWD traction. The 1.9 kWh lithium-ion battery is positioned low and centered to preserve the mid-engine handling balance.
The driving modes deserve attention. Endurance mode adjusts battery strategy for extended track sessions. Qualifying mode delivers maximum power for a single fast lap. Push-to-Pass gives an on-demand burst for overtaking. This is not a grocery-getter with a green badge — it is a track weapon with a charge button.
Grand Sport X adds an electrified all-wheel drive front axle for enhanced performance and control, designed for maximum responsiveness with a 1.9 kWh lithium-ion battery capacity. Starting at $112,195 with destination, it replaces the discontinued E-Ray — and for about $1,100 more than what the E-Ray cost in 2026, buyers get 66 additional horsepower and the Grand Sport nameplate.
When Can You Get One and What Will It Cost
The 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport should start rolling off the assembly line in the week starting June 8, 2026, at the Bowling Green Assembly facility in Kentucky.
The 2027 Stingray gets the LS6 as its standard engine, starts at $73,495, and now comes with performance exhaust as standard equipment across the board. The Grand Sport slots above that, bringing wider body panels, Z06-sourced brakes on performance packages, and track-tuned suspension. For buyers who want the most focused driving experience Chevrolet has offered at this price point in years, the timing could not be better.
Chevrolet is also offering an exclusive Launch Edition package on the inaugural 2027 debut models. The package features custom stitching, a Santorini Blue Dipped interior, embossed headrest logos and a waterfall badge interior plaque — available only on the inaugural 2027 debut models.
The Grand Sport is not just a trim level. It is a mission statement. And based on everything Chevrolet has revealed, this generation may be the best version of that statement yet.
