Rockstar Games dropped the official launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI(GTA 6) today, Oct. 15. It is the last big look before the game hits PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S on Nov. 19. Rockstar posted the 90 second clip on X with the debut of ‘Flower in a Hurricane,’ a new song from score composers Justice featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. The post passed 3.5 million views.
The trailer has the explosions and car chases fans expect. The bigger reveal is in the story. For the first time, Rockstar spells out why its two leads, Jason and Lucia, end up on the wrong side of the law, and the answer is about money and second chances.
What does the GTA 6 launch trailer show?
The clip moves through bank robberies, a concert, a fight on a fan boat and a shower scene between the two leads, with flashbacks to Jason’s time in the Army. Lucia also appears making a phone call from jail. An end card says the footage was captured entirely in game on a standard PlayStation 5, not the Pro model.
The romance is new territory for a recent GTA. Jason and Lucia are a couple, and Rockstar shows it on screen.
Why does Jason turn to crime in GTA 6?
This is the line most viewers will scroll past. Jason says he got into trouble in the Army and left on bad terms. He adds that lenders won’t give loans to people like him. Rockstar’s official description says the pair have always known the deck is stacked against them. When an easy score goes wrong, they land in a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida, the game’s version of Florida.
So Rockstar is not selling two thrill seekers. It is selling a veteran shut out of credit and a woman calling from a cell. For plenty of Black and brown players, a story about being locked out of the system before you even get started feels less like satire and more like Tuesday. The game wraps that reality in neon, but the trailer makes clear the deck is the point.
Who sings the song in the GTA 6 trailer?
Justice, the French electronic duo of Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay, wrote the game’s entire original score. SZA’s voice on the launch track matters. GTA soundtracks have introduced a generation of fans to new artists, and putting an R&B star on the biggest trailer of the year puts her music in front of a global gaming audience. Rockstar says the song will land on the game’s official soundtrack album.
Is GTA 6 coming out on disc?
Not at launch. The boxed version holds only a download code, and preloading opens Nov. 12. Critics argue the move helps Take-Two by killing the used game market, since a code can only be redeemed once. The standard edition costs $80 in stores or digitally, and an Ultimate Edition runs $100.
The shift may hurt fans less than it seems. Circana data shows that through May, 52% of Xbox Series consoles and 27% of PS5 units sold in the U.S. had no disc drive at all. Still, it is ironic timing. A trailer about a stacked deck arrives while buyers lose the right to resell an $80 game.
What comes after the GTA 6 release?
A PC version is expected in early 2027. Rockstar studio heads Phil Hooker and Aaron Garbut have told Bloomberg that the next project won’t take another eight years, because the engine and team built for this game will carry over. For now, the countdown sits at five weeks.
