Druski played Elizabeth Holmes in whiteface on Saturday Night Live on Nov. 7, during his first time hosting. In a taped sketch called Dru Can See Everything, he spoofed You Can See Everything, the Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim documentary about the Theranos founder. He also made history as the first host who built his fame as a social media content creator.
He told viewers what was coming. In his monologue, Druski promised not to do a watered-down version of SNL and hinted he might wear whiteface and curse. He did both in the Holmes sketch.
What happened in Druski’s Elizabeth Holmes sketch?
The sketch imagined that before Holmes and her partner, Billy Evans, worked with Fielder, they first asked Druski to make their documentary. Jane Wickline played Holmes, and Ben Marshall played Evans. Druski opened by copying Fielder’s style, peeking around corners with headphones on, before deciding the couple gave off very strange energy.
During a close-up interview, he thought Holmes was trying to seduce him and tried to close her eyes with his fingers, but they popped right back open. When she showed him one of her products, he called it the cheapest-looking device he had ever seen.
Then came the twist. Borrowing Fielder’s use of reenactments, he said he needed someone who could truly play Holmes, and the camera cut to Druski himself in full Holmes makeup. He and Wickline repeated the same eerie line back and forth before he told her she didn’t scare him. In the end, Evans made a move on Druski’s version of Holmes, and the couple left to find Fielder instead.

Why does Druski’s whiteface feel familiar?
Most coverage has missed this. Druski’s sketch follows a tradition that Black comedians have used on the same stage before. In 1984, Eddie Murphy taped White Like Me for SNL, putting on white makeup to explore how differently the world treated him. Twenty years later, the Wayans brothers made White Chicks a box office hit.
Druski’s version adds a new twist. Holmes is a white woman whose fraud damaged trust in medical testing, and the sketch has a Black man reveal how strange her story is by literally becoming her. His viral videos have used the same idea, with prosthetics playing white women, including a recent controversial parody of Erika Kirk.
Is whiteface in comedy controversial?
Some viewers think so. Critics argue there’s a double standard, since blackface is widely condemned. Defenders say whiteface doesn’t carry the same history of mockery and exclusion that blackface did in American minstrel shows. SNL has never put a single rule in writing on the issue, and he seemed to enjoy breaking the unspoken one.
Why is Druski’s ‘SNL’ hosting gig historic?
Druski, whose real name is Drew Desbordes, has 13.6 million Instagram followers and built his career on skits and fake record label auditions. He hosted the BET Awards in June. SNL has hired cast members from the internet before, including Andy Samberg’s Lonely Island crew, but it had never given the host job to someone who became famous as a digital creator.
Emma Stone, who stars with Druski in an upcoming film, surprised him during the monologue and teased him about his claim that he plays her love interest. The Strokes performed as musical guests for the fifth time.
What’s next for Druski after ‘SNL’?
Druski’s appearance shows that a comedian who built his audience online can succeed in a traditional TV setting like Studio 8H. Viewers will be watching to see whether his film with Stone and his next skits online build on that success.
