Ubisoft has officially pulled back the curtain on Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, confirming a July 9, 2026, release date alongside a full trailer and detailed breakdown of what the remake adds to one of the franchise’s most beloved entries. Thirteen years after the original launched, the project is being led by Ubisoft Singapore, with many members of the original development team returning.
The Resynced game arrives on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via the Ubisoft Store, Epic Games Store, and Steam. It will also be available through the Ubisoft+ subscription service and cloud streaming platforms including Nvidia GeForce Now and Blacknut.
What the remake carries forward
Edward Kenway remains at the center of the experience, voiced once again by Matt Ryan, who has recorded new lines specifically for Resynced. The Caribbean setting returns in full, with locations including Nassau, Kingston, and Havana, along with the Jackdaw, Kenway’s ship, and the naval boarding, raiding, and sea shanty mechanics that defined the original. Real historical pirates including Blackbeard, Anne Bonny, and Charles Vane are also back.
A rebuilt engine and visual overhaul
Resynced runs on the latest version of Ubisoft’s Anvil engine, the same technology used in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The upgrade brings raytraced lighting with global illumination across all graphics modes on PS5, with Fidelity mode adding raytraced reflections. Console players can choose between a 60 FPS Performance mode, a 30 FPS Fidelity mode, and a 40 FPS Balanced mode for displays running at 120hz. The PS5 Pro version receives additional rendering enhancements and ships with Ubisoft’s enhanced PSSR upscaling technology built in.
On PC, the Resynced game supports a range of hardware configurations, with a minimum requirement of an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 or equivalent and 65GB of SSD storage. Ray tracing options have been optimized to run on lower-end hardware without requiring a GPU with hardware-accelerated ray tracing support.
New content and expanded gameplay
Beyond the visual upgrade, Resynced adds meaningful content to the base game. New story scenes have been written by original lead writer Darby McDevitt, including a scene featuring Edward’s wife Caroline. Blackbeard and other crew members receive expanded story arcs, and three new officers, Lucy Baldwin, The Padre, and Deadman Smith, can be recruited after earning their trust, each bringing distinct abilities to naval combat.
The combat system has been rebuilt around faster parrying, chained takedowns, and new environmental destruction. Stealth has also been overhauled, with the ability to crouch anywhere, dive toward seafront locations, and recover from failed tailing or eavesdropping missions rather than facing an immediate restart. A new Observe mode extends Edward’s Eagle Vision range.
Naval combat receives new secondary weapons including shrapnel barrels that damage enemy sails and 8-pound cannons that open additional weak points in ship hulls. A dynamic weather system powered by Anvil’s Atmos technology affects how the Jackdaw handles at sea, with destructible objects responding to both weather and combat in real time. Players can also recruit a cat or monkey as a ship companion.
Ten new sea shanties join the original soundtrack, and French musician Woodkid contributed a reimagined track to mark the game’s return.
