The 2026 Met Gala had no shortage of showstopping moments, but few arrivals generated as much warmth as the one delivered by A$AP Rocky and Rihanna. The couple stepped onto the Metropolitan Museum of Art steps on May 4 and immediately gave the cameras exactly what they came for, a masterclass in fashion and an unscripted display of genuine affection.
Rihanna, 38, arrived in a dramatic gold Maison Margiela gown that was nothing short of sculptural. The piece featured a structured bodice that created the illusion of a dress within a dress, with the majority of the fabric crafted from a shiny material that caught the light like liquid metal. The center of the gown appeared to drip with actual jewels. She completed the look with ear cuffs, rings, frosty eyeshadow, and a hairstyle adorned with gold hardware. When asked about the evening’s theme, she described herself as both the art and the artist, a response entirely in keeping with her legacy at the event, which stretches back to her red carpet debut there in 2009.
Rocky’s tribute and his words for Rihanna
Rocky, 37, arrived beside her in a baby pink coat adorned with a feathered brooch, paired with a bow tie and loafers. The jacket was widely seen as a nod to his new chapter as a girl dad following the birth of the couple’s daughter, Rocki, in September 2025. Standing next to Rihanna on the carpet, he described her as shining like a diamond. He also spoke about what it means to be loved by a Black woman, calling the experience extraordinary and unlike anything else.
The couple are parents to three children. Their eldest son RZA was born in 2022, followed by their second son Riot in 2023. Rocki, their daughter, arrived on Sept. 13, 2025, completing a family that Rocky and Rihanna have spoken about with open joy. The arrival of their daughter was described by those close to the family as a long-awaited and deeply celebrated moment for Rihanna, who had always envisioned having a girl.
The night’s co-chairs and theme
This year’s gala was co-chaired by Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour. Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz also led the Host Committee, which brought together a wide roster of cultural figures including Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor, Misty Copeland, and others.
The evening’s theme, “Costume Art,” was curated by Andrew Bolton and centered on the relationship between clothing and the human body. The exhibition was organized around a series of thematic body types, from the naked body to the pregnant body to the aging body, creating a framework that invited both fashion and philosophical reflection.
For Rihanna, who has graced the Met Gala carpet more than a dozen times, the night felt like another chapter in a story that keeps getting richer. And for Rocky, standing beside her in pink feathers with a smile that said everything, it clearly felt like exactly where he was supposed to be.
