Ving Rhames is back home and recovering after a frightening health scare that sent him to the hospital on Wednesday, April 29.
The Mission: Impossible actor was dining with his family in North Hollywood when he suddenly collapsed, but his manager says he is already back home and in good spirits.
The Mission: Impossible actor, 66, had been having lunch at a restaurant in North Hollywood, Calif., with members of his family when he suddenly collapsed at the table, according to TMZ. The incident drew an immediate emergency response, with the Los Angeles Fire Department confirming that paramedics had been dispatched to the area at around 1:40 p.m. local time. A 66 year old male had been treated on the scene and then transported for further medical care, according to USA Today.
A quick recovery and a reassuring update
The alarm surrounding the situation was quickly eased when Rhames manager, Brad Kramer, confirmed to both Variety and USA Today that the actor had already been discharged from the hospital and was on his way home by Wednesday evening.
Kramer described speaking with Rhames by phone shortly after the hospitalization and said the actor seemed entirely like himself calm, good humored and in decent spirits given the circumstances. Kramer added to USA Today that Rhames may have been overheated at the time of the incident, offering a possible explanation for the sudden collapse.
As of Wednesday night, Rhames was feeling fine, his manager confirmed to both outlets.
A franchise fixture with decades of iconic roles
Rhames has been one of Hollywood‘s most recognizable faces for more than three decades, building a career that spans some of the most enduring films in recent memory. He first broke through in a major way with his role in Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 classic Pulp Fiction, a performance that helped establish him as one of the most compelling character actors of his generation.
He went on to appear in Martin Scorsese’s 1999 drama Bringing Out the Dead, and later showed his range with a role in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2017.
But it is his role as Luther Stickell in the Mission: Impossible franchise that has become his most defining screen presence. Rhames holds the rare distinction of being the only actor besides Tom Cruise to have appeared in all eight films in the series a testament to just how central his character has become to the long-running action franchise.
What’s next for the veteran actor
Despite the health scare, Rhames has a full slate of upcoming projects that his fans will be watching closely. He is set to star in The Mongoose alongside Liam Neeson and Marisa Tomei, a pairing that has already generated considerable anticipation.
He is also attached to the upcoming film Painter, which will feature him alongside Walton Goggins and Amber Midthunder two actors who have each been generating significant buzz of their own in recent years.
Given the warm update from his manager and his reported return home the same evening, there is every reason to expect that Rhames will be back to work without significant interruption.
