Nearly three months after suffering a spinal stroke that left him unconscious and hospitalized, The Blind Side actor Quinton Aaron is speaking publicly for the first time about the full weight of what he has been carrying. The 41-year-old is currently undergoing intensive physical rehabilitation at an Atlanta hospital, working three hours a day, every day, toward the goal of walking again.
His doctors have indicated that the road ahead could stretch anywhere from several months to a full year. Aaron has made clear he is not interested in that timeline. Fueled by faith and an unshakeable belief in his own recovery, he has set his sights on returning to the floor far sooner than the projections suggest. His optimism extends beyond physical recovery as well. Despite everything, he has expressed genuine excitement about returning to acting when his body is ready.
Diabetes, which his medical team identified as a contributing factor to the stroke, is also being managed as part of his ongoing care. Aaron’s family announced his hospitalization at the end of January, days after reports surfaced that he had collapsed on the stairs of his Atlanta apartment. At the time, they confirmed he was alert and aware, and emphasized that the family was focused entirely on supporting his recovery.
A marriage unraveled in a hospital room
Aaron’s health crisis brought something else into the light, something that struck at the heart of his personal life in ways he is still processing. While he was unconscious during his four-day coma, members of his family began looking into the legal standing of his wife, Margarita DeLeon, whom he had married in December 2024.
What they found upended everything. Records uncovered by an attorney indicated that DeLeon was still legally married to another man, a prior husband she had wed back in 1992. The discovery meant she had no legal authority to make medical decisions on Aaron’s behalf, and she was subsequently removed from his care circle while he was still in the coma.
When Aaron woke up, the news was waiting for him. He described the revelation as one of the most painful moments of an already painful chapter, made sharper by the fact that DeLeon had consistently assured him over the course of their relationship that her previous marriage had been dissolved for more than a decade. She had even reportedly claimed to possess the paperwork to prove it.
Aaron acknowledged that he never personally verified those documents, and he has been candid about viewing that as a significant misstep on his part. Looking back, he has said he would have approached the situation very differently, doing far more research before taking that step.
Two sides of a complicated story
DeLeon has maintained that she was genuinely unaware her divorce had never been legally finalized. Her account of learning the truth alongside Aaron in the hospital has been supported by her former husband, who has said they both believed the filing had been completed years earlier. He moved to formally file for divorce in February after the oversight came to light.
The situation remains complicated, and Aaron has been measured in how he discusses it publicly, framing the experience less as a betrayal and more as a lesson about attention and due diligence.
Moving forward with intention
What comes through most clearly in Aaron’s account of this period is a man who has decided to pay closer attention, to his body, to the people around him, and to the details he once let slide. He has spoken about his health in that same spirit, describing years of ignoring warning signs that his body was sending him long before the stroke arrived.
For now, the focus remains on rehabilitation, on rebuilding strength, and on the next chapter of a career and a life that are very much still in motion.
