Jonathan Majors is back on a film set. The actor, whose once-meteoric rise through Hollywood came to a screeching halt following a criminal conviction in late 2023, is currently in South Carolina shooting his first film in roughly four years. The project is an untitled action film produced by The Daily Wire and Bonfire Legend, directed by Kyle Rankin from his own original screenplay. Majors is also producing through his own company, Tall Street Productions.
The news has sent a ripple through the entertainment industry — not simply because Majors is working again, but because of the specific door he chose to walk through to get there.
What Majors Is Filming and Why It Matters
Details on the film remain deliberately sparse. The title, full plot and supporting cast are all being kept under wraps. What is known is that the story draws from the spirit of classic 1980s and 1990s action films — specifically Red Dawn and Toy Soldiers — both of which featured groups of young people banding together to fight off an invading threat. Director Kyle Rankin previously helmed Run Hide Fight for The Daily Wire, making this a reunion of sorts for the filmmaker and the production company.
Ben Shapiro is producing for The Daily Wire while Dallas Sonnier produces for Bonfire Legend. Additional producers include Travis Mills, Lillian Campbell and Sydney Aucreman. Kristopher Kimlin serves as cinematographer, with David Guglielmo handling casting. The production team is seasoned, the infrastructure is real — and Majors is at the center of it all.
The Daily Wire’s Pattern of Hiring Majors-Type Figures
The choice of production partner is where things get complicated for him. The Daily Wire has built a deliberate and well-documented strategy of offering leading roles to actors who have been pushed out of mainstream Hollywood following controversies. The company previously cast Armie Hammer, Gina Carano, Vincent Gallo and Roseanne Barr in prominent roles. Its most commercially successful release to date remains Matt Walsh’s mockumentary Am I Racist?, which earned $12 million domestically.
The Majors casting slots neatly into that established pattern — a recognizable, talented name seeking a path back to screens, paired with a company that has made a business out of providing exactly that. Whether that arrangement serves him long-term career ambitions, or simply offers a short-term lifeline, remains an open question that Hollywood is already debating.
How Majors Lost Everything He Had Built
At the start of 2023, he was one of the most exciting actors in Hollywood. He was widely expected to reprise his role as Kang the Conqueror across multiple Marvel projects and had earned critical praise for performances that demonstrated genuine range and depth. That trajectory collapsed dramatically when Majors was arrested in March 2023 following an altercation with his then-girlfriend. In December 2023, he was convicted of reckless assault and harassment. In April 2024, a court sentenced him to a 52-week, in-person domestic violence intervention program.
Marvel removed Majors from its upcoming Avengers project in February 2024. His most recent screen credits prior to this new film include the Disney+ series Loki, in which he played Kang the Conqueror, and Magazine Dreams, which premiered at Sundance in January 2023 and finally received a wider non-festival release in early 2025.
What the Road Ahead Could Look Like for Majors
Before landing the Daily Wire project, Majors had been attached to Martin Villeneuve’s Merciless, but that film has stalled in development. The South Carolina production now represents his most tangible path back to a screen audience. Major studios have not come calling — yet.
There is, however, one significant thread of possibility still dangling. Michael B. Jordan has publicly hinted that he could potentially return to the Creed franchise, a role that would carry enormous mainstream visibility given the series’ loyal fanbase and box office track record. Nothing has been confirmed, but the suggestion alone indicates that not every door in Hollywood has been permanently sealed shut for him.
For now, the Daily Wire film is the official start — a real production, with cameras rolling, in a state far from the Hollywood spotlight. Whether it marks the beginning of a genuine second act or simply a brief return remains to be seen. The industry is watching.
