The FBI confirmed on April 14 that rapper Offset was ambushed outside a South Florida casino by a large group of individuals attempting to rob him. The attack took place the previous Monday night outside the Seminole Hard Rock hotel and casino in Hollywood, Florida, a city just north of Miami. A single shot was fired into Offset’s leg during the confrontation, and the group made an unsuccessful attempt to take his watch before fleeing the scene.
Federal investigators have taken over the search for the suspects, who left in two separate Chevrolet SUVs. One, a black Suburban, headed toward the Hollywood area. The other, a Tahoe, moved southbound in the direction of Miami. As of the FBI statement, neither vehicle nor any confirmed suspect connected to the shooting had been located.
Two detained but no direct links established
In the immediate aftermath of the attack, officers at the scene detained two individuals. However, law enforcement has not released evidence directly connecting either person to the shooting itself.
One of those detained was fellow rapper Lil Tjay, who was arrested in connection with a separate altercation that took place before the shooting occurred. His charges were limited to disorderly conduct and operating a vehicle without a valid license. His legal representation was quick to clarify that he was not in possession of a firearm and faced no weapons-related charges. He was released after posting bond.
The distinction matters. The robbery and shooting remain an open federal investigation, and the presence of two detained individuals has not translated into arrests tied to the primary crime.
Offset back on stage within days
Despite being hospitalized for several days following the attack, Offset returned to performing with remarkable speed. By Saturday he was on stage at a music festival at the University of Arkansas, a turnaround that surprised many who had been following the story. He had previously addressed the incident publicly, expressing gratitude for the support he received while signaling his intention to move forward.
The Migos legacy behind the name
For those less familiar with Offset beyond the headlines, his place in hip-hop history is well established. He rose to prominence as one third of Migos, an Atlanta trio that became one of the most influential groups in the genre’s recent history. The group’s rapid-fire delivery and rhythmic style, known widely as triplet flow, filtered into mainstream rap in ways that are still felt today.
Migos produced a string of major commercial hits across four studio albums, including a chart-topping single that reached the top position on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. The group’s impact on trap music specifically extended far beyond their own recordings, shaping how a generation of artists approached rhythm and cadence in the studio.
The trio has not been without its tragedies. More than three years ago, one of Offset’s cousins and a fellow member of the group was fatally shot at a bowling alley in Houston, a loss that cast a long shadow over the group and over Offset personally.
Investigation ongoing
The FBI’s involvement signals that federal authorities view the Florida attack as serious, and the use of vehicles to flee across potential jurisdictional lines likely contributed to that decision. No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and investigators have not publicly identified any suspects.
Offset, for his part, appears determined not to let the incident define this chapter of his career. He is back performing. The case, however, remains open.
