Keke Wyatt is pushing back on reports describing a lengthy list of charges tied to her arrest earlier this month in Georgia.
The 44 year old R&B singer, whose legal name is Ketara Wyatt Darring, was taken into custody and booked into the Henry County Jail on Sunday, Sept. 20. She posted a $1,050 bond two days later,
In the days that followed, several outlets, including CBS Atlanta and The Georgia Gazette, reported that Wyatt’s booking record included aggravated assault, terroristic threats and acts, and a misdemeanor count of third degree cruelty to children. Under Georgia law, that last charge typically applies when someone knowingly permits a minor to witness a violent crime or an incident of family violence.
Wyatt’s team disputes the reported charges
Not long after news of the arrest spread, representatives for the singer stepped in to correct the record. They maintained that Henry County court paperwork reflects a single charge simple assault and pushed back on any suggestion that additional counts were filed.
A statement shared to Wyatt’s Instagram page on Friday, Sept. 25, addressed the discrepancy directly. Her team expressed concern over the spread of the cruelty to children characterization in particular, noting that the description carries serious weight and does not match what actually appears in the court filing for this case.
The statement also urged those covering the story to stick to verified facts, especially where children are involved, rather than allowing inaccurate details to circulate as though confirmed. It added that Wyatt intends to let the legal process play out and will address the situation through proper channels.
To back up the claim, Wyatt’s Instagram Stories included an image of a court document that listed just one charge: simple assault.

Wyatt shares 11 children, a detail that has made the child cruelty claim especially sensitive for her camp to see spreading unchecked. Her children include daughters Ke’Tarah Victoria Morton, 18, Mickayla Ford, and Ke’Yoshi Bella Ford, 11, along with sons Keyver Wyatt Morton, 26, Rahjah Ke’ Morton, 24, Ke’Mar Von Ford, 16, Wyatt Michael Ford, 14, Kendall Miguel Ford, 8, Ke’Riah David Darring, 6, and Ke’Zyah Jean Darring, 4.
A past legal chapter resurfaces
This isn’t the first run in with the courts for Wyatt. Back in 2002, near the start of her music career, she was indicted on a second degree assault charge after stabbing her then husband and manager, Rahmat Morton. That case was eventually dismissed.
Years later, Wyatt reflected on the incident, describing the circumstances as a threat to her own safety at the time. Speaking to Essence in 2012, she characterized the episode as a painful chapter that stemmed from wanting to shield her children, one she came to regret deeply even as she worked not to let it define her.
