Colts Tell Andrew Luck He’ll Be No. 1 Pick In NFL Draft, According To Report

I can’t remember a time when news of this caliber isn’t even the slightest surprise but ESPN’s Adam Shefter  reports that the Indianapolis Colts have told Stanford’s Andrew Luck that he will be the No. 1 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. The Colts said just this week that they’ve decided on who the No. 1 pick will be but did not disclose the name.

This comes as no surprise at all. Ever since the Colts secured the No. 1 pick in the draft, Luck has been the target. The Colts flirted with Robert Griffin III but didn’t even ask him to come in for a visit which should tell you all you need to know about their draft plans next week.

The Colts could start negotiating with Luck immediately but it sounds like they won’t do that until he’s officially selected No. 1 next week.

Luck will take over for Peyton Manning, who was cut this offseason and joined the Denver Broncos. The similarities between Luck and Manning are there. Both will be No. 1 picks and both were considered extremely polished prospects. Luck will likely end up starting from day one in Indianapolis.
